Best Clothing Optional Beaches in Hawaii

Hanalei Beach, Kauai

Hawaii has not legalized naturism. Not that this makes any difference to the number of naturist beaches here any more than it does in any state. These are not extremely common, but can easily be found. Let us have a look at the best places to look.

On the Hana Side of Maui, there is a red sand beach that is clothing optional. It is also known as Kaihalulu Beach. The sand here is red and the beach is quite secluded. It is a bit tricky to access the beach but not very difficult. Anyway, the seclusion is worth it.

Little Beach is one naturist beach that everyone knows. It is simply beautiful and is a sand crescent that is secluded and popular. It is one location where you will have great peace and quiet. To access Little Beach, just go south of Kihei to Big Beach. Take the right from the parking lot, till you come to a cliff. Take the path over the cliff and to the other side, where you will see Little Beach in all its beauty.

Hanalei Beach, Kauai

Big Island has three excellent naturist beaches. The Steam Vents, the Honokohau Harbor Beach and Dolphin Beach or Kehena Beach are three beaches with varying privacy. Steam Vents is a beautiful location inside natural caves with steam baths. It is located near Hilo at Mile Marker 15 off Highway 130. The property is privately owned, but owners allow people to use it. The Steamvent Guesthouse is close by and is clothing optional too.

Dolphin is well shaded and has black sand. It is popular with locals, but swimming is not easy with high waves and rough current. The beach is well shaded and has tall trees and steep cliffs. The beach is situated at the Puna district in the Hilo Side of Highway 137 close to the 19 mi marker.

Honokohau Harbor beach is a beautiful beach, but forest rangers keep patrolling the area to enforce the nudity ban. But this still does not curb the popularity of the beach.

In Kauai Island there is the Secret Beach, which is also known as Kauapea Beach, which can be accessed off Kalihiwai Road, which is situated about half a mile to the north of Kilauea at Route 56. This is now the best naturist beach on the island. County authorities keep trying to enforce the ban. The sandy beach offers excellent snorkeling.
